Why?

 This result was from denial:

It can't happen to me, abortions are for other women, I've never had a miscarriage.  My kids will not have defects.

He will not do all that. Most of it would not affect me.

However they shop and notice the prices going up and don't notice the apparent price gouging.  But that's inflation and the blue guys did that.

Tarriffs will not affect me I don't by foreign stuff.

And so on...

So here we are.  When the manure spreader is fired up avoiding getting covered is unlikely.

When will they notice the changes and the impact it will be too late. And the things they noticed like prices will go every higher.

The fix is in.  Just not the one you were thinking of.
